Senior Retreat Cotswolds/Evesham

We stopped by Gloucester Cathedral on our drive to the Cotswold's for our Senior Retreat.

The Gloucester Abbey was first built in 679AD. As with many abbeys, it was added on to over time. In 1216, Henry III was crowned at the abbey. In 1536, the abbey was refounded as a Cathedral. The cathedral has frequently been used as a filming spot for many films including a backup for Harry Potter's Hogwarts.

The architecture and stained glass windows did not fail to impress.

One of our first stops with our Senior missionary friends was Broadway Tower.
Broadway Tower was the brainchild of the great 18th century landscape designer, "Capability Brown". His vision was carried out for George William, the 6th Earl of Coventry with the help of the renowned architect James Wyatt and completed i 1798. The location for the Tower was wisely chosen, a dramatic outlook on a pre-medieval trading route and beacon hill.

A little wet and windy.

Beautiful View!

We also visited a site of his home he built for his wife. The home no longer exists but there is a museum and gardens there to mark the spot.

The home was originally built in 1463.
It was eventually extended to make more space.

Hidcote Manner Gardens

The weekend we visited Hidcote Manor and Gardens there was a artwork show set up around the gardens with many statues and pieces of art. There were over a hundred works of art. These are just a few.

This thatched roof has a top that is a work of art.
