Sidmouth, Coastal Hike, Santa Maria Replica, Battle Proms at Highclere Castle

One of my Bucket List items was to attend a show of Fishermen's Friends. The only tickets I could find were for next February. I then got a notification of a concert at The Sidmouth Folk Festival they we doing as a pre-festival event and was able to get some tickets. Two other senior couples were able to attend with us. I love their fisherman shanties and harmonies. It was a fun evening.

Fisherman's Friends

I love this guy's bass voice!

A tower of flowers and a iconic red phone booth changed into a museum.

6  mile Coastal Hike
with Elder and Sister Lewis
From Ringstead Bay to Lulworth Cove

What a beautiful day for a hike!

Golden wheat fields all ready to harvest.

Lulworth Cove 3.5 miles from here. I think this must be as the crow flys. Add another couple of miles for the climbs up and down the whit cliffs.

Smuggler's Path to White Nothe. We left this path to the smugglers. A little dangerous and steep!

Just enjoying the view

The first little bit wasn't too strenuous.

Pushed ourselves to make the whole hike.

Counting down, 3.0 to Lulworth Cove

Taking a break!

This are a lot more steep than they look!

Lolworth Cove 2. miles

These cows know what to do on a warm sunny day:)

Durdle Door

We saw a few people on our hike but when we got to Durdel Door, there was a ton of people on the trail and on the beach.  A lot of people on the beach.

We finished off the last mile of the hike to Lolworth Cove and then Elder Herdt and I walked a half mile back to the car. The hike was a challenge but a good time. We would rather be outside in nature than in a manmade place.
We enjoyed getting to our hotel and resting for a while.

This square was just behind our hotel.

This old building used to be the Dorchester Brewery.

The next day we stopped by Weymouth Harbor the see a replica of Christorpher Columbus' ship, the Santa Maria, which sailed to the America's in 1492.

Santa Maria Replica

There was no place below deck for sailors to sleep. they would just have to find a place on deck to sleep when they weren't on a work shift.

The First Waldo

This sailor was a real person! I can't image standing still all day long just to wave on occasion.

The Santa Maria wasn't as big as I thought it would be.

Battle Proms at Highclere Castle
(where Downton Abbey was filmed)

This is the gate into Highclere Castle

We had to sit in a que for an hour or so before entering the grounds at Highclere.

Welsh Flags Flying!

About 8000 people!

An evening filled with music, exhibitions, fireworks, a spitfire flying over, skydivers and a wonderful time with other Senior Missionaries.

Hikes & fun with the missionaries

We were able to go on a few hikes with the missionaries this month. Hiking the Garth was cold but fun hiking with Sister Timothy and Sister...
